2012 Rescue Mission Food Drive

Every year the Mission partners with Lebanon Rescue Mission and Water Street Ministries for the Annual Fall Food Drive. The impact of our paternship is tremendous! Last year we served over 408,750 meals (180,435 at the York Rescue Mission) all provided by your generous donations. This year we expect those numbers to be even higher.

The York Rescue Mission is planning to meet the needs of over 5,500 men, women and children in our community this holiday season. We are inteding to supply approximately 1,700 Thanksgiving baskets to (individuals and families) living in poverty within York County.

To do this we need 224,000 pounds of non-perishable food items!

Please help us supply a Thanksgiving meal by donating your resources or talents:

  • Donate NOW online!
  • Watch for the "Food Collection Bag" in the York Sunday Newspaper October 21, 2012. Fill this bag with non-perishable food items (click here for suggestions) and drop at the Mission, any Turkey Hill Minit Market, M&T Bank or the York Newspaper Company.
  • Organize your own food drive. Visit the Rescue Mission Food Drive website for further instructions.
  • Pick up donated food from M&T Bank drop-off points and deliver to our warehouse (requires an 8 week commitment from October 21, 2012 to December 15, 2012).
  • Deliver the packed baskets November 20, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. (vehicle needed)
  • Bake pies, homemade cookies, or bake and de-bone turkeys for the Thanksgiving Day dinner at the Mission.
For any of these volunteer possibilities, please contact Kathy Jones ASAP at
717-812-1692.

Hungry This Thanksgiving Day?

On Thanksgiving Day we will continue our tradition of opening our doors and inviting homeless and needy men, women and children to a traditional "Thanksgiving Dinner" in our dinng room (located at 367 W Market St) on November 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.

We have so much to be thankful for!

11th Annual Blanket Drive

Help a needy individual in our community wrap themselves in warmth during the upcoming cold season by simply donating a blanket.

We are planning to give away blankets during the month of December (starting on the 1st) to such areas as:

  • White Rose Senior Center
  • Youth Development Center
  • Alternative Schools
  • Local Community Police Station
  • Our 3 Economy Stores
  • Christmas Children's Outreach
  • Mission Chapel

Each year we strive to bring greater awareness of the need for blankets in our community.
You can help;
  • Bring a New Blanket wrapped in Christmas paper with an attached Christmas Card to 373 E Market St, Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • If your group would be interested in this project, please contact Melinda Gorog or Ada Hite at 717-812-1692 with your ideas and collection details.
  • Simply spread the word about the Blanket Drive, or post a note on your social media page.
  • Make sure your donations of New Blankets are at the Mission by November 26th.

Children's Christmas Outreach

Monday, December 24, 2012 at the York Expo Center

Doors open at 8:00 a.m. -- Program starts at 9:00 a.m.

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" Matthew 19:13-14 NLT

Each year, you, our donors and volunteers, help to send a message to all those we serve that they are not forgotten. The fact that they receive from people they have never met helps them to believe that there is good in the world. When people act unselfishly, with no expectations, it becomes easier to believe in a world of love and hope.

This Christmas holiday season we want our guests to know about the priceless gift of God's unconditional love. Many of the hurting people we serve may know little or nothing about the great gift of Christmas, the birth of Jesus. Be a part of making this wonderful gift a reality.

You can help by filling a backpack with age appropriate items for newborn to 18 years of age, boy and girl. Some ideas are:

  • toys (no more than $10.00)
  • puzzles
  • Bible story books
  • hygiene items
  • games
  • school supplies
  • devotionals
  • hats, gloves and scarves
We also appreciate new sleeping bags and new blankets.

Please place all items in a Ziploc see-through bag for safety purposes. We must be able to examine all items donated before placing them in a backpack. Also label the bag with the appropriate age and if it's for a boy/girl.

Please drop off your items before December 4th at the main Mission at 367 W Market St. For more information, please contact Melinda Gorog or Ada Hite.
